Brief History of Diablo Valley College (DVC)

Diablo Valley College (DVC), founded in 1949, is one of the Contra Costa Community College District’s publicly supported two-year community colleges.

The larger of DVC’s two campuses are in Pleasant Hill, off Interstate 680, while the newer San Ramon Campus serves the south county in Dougherty Valley. Each term, DVC serves over 28,000 students across two campuses with a wide range of program options.

Diablo Valley College has been providing quality education to the community it serves for over 70 years. After a million students, enrolling at DVC is one of the best ways to ensure admission to a four-year college. DVC is not only regarded as one of the best community colleges in California, but it also leads the state in transfer to four-year institutions.

According to data released recently by UCLA’s Center for the Study of Community Colleges, DVC’s transfer rate to four-year universities is 67% higher than the national average. Another report, released by the California Postsecondary Educational Commission, shows that DVC ranked first in the state for transfers, outperforming all other California community colleges.
