The Clinical Skills Center supports and offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate clinical skills instruction, simulation training, courses, and tests. Early clinical experience is a feature that adds to the brilliance of our programs. Clinical experience is important to teaching across our healthcare programs in medicine, dentistry, and physician associates.
Initial clinical instruction is provided to students in the safe and non-threatening setting of the Clinical Skills Center, away from the stresses and worries associated with real patient contact. It focuses on the development of communication skills, examination skills, and procedural skills.
The organization and support of this instruction, as well as all the events, classes, programs, and tests that take place in the Simulation & Training Center and the Clinical Skills Center, are largely dependent on our technological team. In contrast to other academic departments within the university, Clinical Skills offers year-round instruction. They also encourage any non-formal learning and skill-practice opportunities that students have outside of scheduled class instruction.
The following areas are the focus of the work:
- Ensuring that spaces and tools are ready for clinical instruction and exams, both within and externally
- Ensuring that clinical skills equipment is allocated appropriately for the job being performed
- Placing and handling equipment and disposables orders for the instruction of all clinical skills
- Routine upkeep and preparation of instructional resources and simulation hardware
- Upkeep of inventory of equipment, including repairs and guarantees
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 4 scale, £25,742 – £29,605 per annum, and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
Informal inquiries should be made to Denise Tosh, Technical Resources Officer (01224 437457).
